Sigma Phi
Thanks a bunch to everyone who helped make the Bake, Book and Boutique such a success!
We made a donation to the church because of all the help given on a very hot day.
PURPOSE: To enjoy fellowship with women while providing various services to the church and community. Our main endeavor is providing maintenance of the lawn, shrubs, trees and plants on the church grounds.
MEETINGS: Second Wednesday of each month from September through June, at 12:30 pm. Usually, we meet at the church. Bring your own brown bag lunch-beverage and dessert will be provided by co-hostesses from a rotating list. Occasionally, we go to a local restaurant for lunch.
CHARITIES: Each month members contribute to Interfaith Social Services, a Quincy agency fulfilling various needs to families in the community. We also give to the Quincy Crisis Center, a shelter for women and children. We collect pennies throughout the year; when we have $50.00, we send a check to DOVE, a shelter for women and children escaping domestic violence. In additional to those three, we occasionally contribute to other needs.
HISTORY: Sigma Phi was established in 1938 for young women of the church. All women are welcome, most are now senior citizens--our oldet member is 100 and still active! "Sigma" and "Phi" are Greek letters representing the first letters of the words "Service" and "Fellowship."
